BBCCI hosts reception in honour of new Bangladesh High Commissioner
On 27th April 2015, the BBCCI hosted a reception in honour of the new Bangladesh High Commissioner to London, His Excellency Md. Abdul Hannan. The event was a huge success and was attended by BBCCI office holders and directors, members, and business people. Ms. Sharifa Khan, Commercial Counsellor at the Bangladesh High Commission, London also attended.
The speakers were His Excellency Md. Abdul Hannan, M. Noor Miah, Acting President BBCCI, Mohib Uddin Choudhry, Director General, BBCCI, Sayedur Rahman Ranu JP, Finance Director, Muquim Ahmed, Director & Former President, Azizur Rahman, Midland Regional President, BBCCI, Enam Ali MBE FIH, Advisor & Director BBCCI, Shahagir Bakth Faruk MSC FRSPH, Advisor & Former President BBCCI, Hafiz Alam Bakhsh, Director BBCCI.
In his speech the High Commissioner Md. Abdul Hannan commended the BBCCI for its work. He said:
"It is my great honour to attend this exchange sharing session with the members of the BBCCI who are supporting Bangladeshi diaspora since its inception in 1991 for promoting and strengthening bi-lateral trade and investment relations between the two countries and assisting the Bangladesh diaspora in setting up business with information, research, business linkage and networking. I therefore, extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to them for their pioneering initiatives and untiring efforts. As one of the patrons of the organisation, I feel really proud for the hard work you have done so far for up-lifting the lives of our community in very innovating ways."
The High Commissioner also talked about how the economy of Bangladesh had changed dramatically over the last decade. He said:
"The country has now become a role model for the private sector led growth and development. With robust growth, new business opportunities are spawned in various sectors such as infrastructure development, skill improvement, technological up-gradation, ICT development, quality improvement etc."
He called on British Bangladeshi's to take up investment opportunities and come up with convincing business plans in Bangladesh. He said:
"My purpose of attending this meeting is to share the real potentialities with you and find out a way forward. I am particularly, interested to identify policy barriers which you are currently encountering in running your business in Bangladesh and also like to share other challenges that are hindering your business access in our country."
Commenting on the reception, M. Noor Miah, Acting President, said:
"We are delighted and honoured to host areception for the new Bangladesh High Commissioner to London, His Excellency Md. Abdul Hannan. We look forward to working with him and the Bangladesh Government to enhance trade & investment between the U.K. and Bangladesh."
